CIM Chartered Manager Canada is Canada's senior professional association, certification body and academic institute for managers and leaders.

History

CIM Chartered Manager Canada was founded in 1942 as the Society of Industrial Methods Engineers and in 1946 became the Canadian Industrial Management Association. It became the Canadian Institute of Management in 1970. In 2016 it became CIM Chartered Managers Canada to reflect its role as Canada's certifying body for chartered management professionals.

As a Federally Chartered not-for-profit organization, CIM Chartered Managers Canada operates through 14 chapters across Canada.

CIM Chartered Managers Canada collaborates with the University of London to offer a dual-credential Global MBA and Chartered Manager program to students in Canada.

The University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies provides in-class and online delivery of the Chartered Management Program (CMP).

National Accreditation Framework (NAF)

Through the National Accreditation Framework, CIM Chartered Managers Canada accredits academic programs within Canadian colleges, polytechnics and universities as meeting the requirements for the Chartered Management Program (CMP) leading to Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.) and the Certified in Management (C.I.M.) professional designations.

Certificate in Supervisory Management (CSM)

The Canadian Institute of Management and partner institutions offer a 4-course Certificate in Supervisory Management (CSM) consisting of the following courses:

  • Managerial Communications
  • Optional Courses (2)

Chartered Management Program (CMP)

The Institute offers the CMP leading to the Certificate in Management and Administration through Distance Education, or through various partner institutions across Canada; consisting of the following curriculum:

  • Introduction to Management
  • Managerial Communications
  • Financial Management
  • Strategic Analysis
  • Optional Courses (4)

CIM Chartered Managers Canada is also partnered with the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies to deliver the Chartered Management Program (CMP).

Professional Designations

The Canadian Institute of Management offers the following post-nominal designations:

  • Certified in Management (C.I.M.)
  • Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.)

Certified in Management (C.I.M.)

The Certified in Management (C.I.M.) designation is awarded upon completion of the 8-course CMP leading to the Certificate in Management and Administration and 24 months of validated professional management experience. The academic requirement for the C.I.M. designation are offered through the Institute and partner institutions across Canada.

Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.)

Chartered Manager is the Institute's senior management qualification and chartered professional designation. It is abbreviated as C.Mgr. and used as a post-nominal to accredited members in good standing. The designation also gives the holders an exclusive right to use the full title of "Chartered Manager" in Canada.

The formation process begins with a recognized undergraduate degree in management, commerce or business administration. If the candidate has a degree in a field other than management, commerce or business administration they will be required to complete the 8-course Chartered Management Program (CMP) to ensure they have the requisite technical skills. A graduate degree in management will also satisfy this requirement.

Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Management (F.CIM)

The Fellowship Designation is an honorary award to individuals with a record of distinction and achievement in their community, locally, regionally and nationally.
