Bolsheretsk

Bolsheretsk or Bolsheretsky jail — abandoned village on the West coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, before jail and a commanding position on the Peninsula, was located at the confluence of Rapid river Big (now R. Plotnikova), on the plain.

Jail was founded in 1703 on the river Bolshaya 50 km from its confluence with the sea of Okhotsk. In 1707 the rebels destroyed the Itelmens. In 1711 was rebuilt following the river on its right Bank between the river and the Quick Gilzovka.

Bolsheretsky jail was represented by a square earthwork with a side of 21.6 m, on a crest it was dug a palisade of poles. In 1715 poles were replaced by a log fence. Fortifications lasted until the beginning of the 1770s.

In 1928 the village was abolished, the inhabitants moved to the Bayou', where the village of kavalerskoe, and to the mouth of the Great river, village of Ust-Bolsheretsk, from 1926 which became the center of Ust-Bolsheretsky District.
