Biswas
Biswas (pronounced in Bengali as "bish-shash") is a common surname in West Bengal, Bihar among Indian Hindus and Muslims mostly Bengalis. In Bengali, Biswas means believe in.
This title would have been attributed to those who contributed for the government administrative services during Muslim and British Period in Indian subcontinent. Apart from being used by different Hindu castes, it is also a common surname among Muslims in Bangladesh.
