Beat is responsible for developing a taxi cab and peer-to-peer-ridesharing mobile application, the Beat app, for smartphones and other mobile devices.[2] Beat's headquarters are located in Athens, Greece, where it is popular among locals.[3] However, about 90 percent of the company’s ride-booking activity is abroad, in South America, where more than 150,000 drivers have registered with the app.[4][5]

Beat is currently available in Athens and the capital cities of Chile, Peru, and Colombia.[6][7]

Background

Formerly known as Taxibeat, the company was founded in 2011 by Nikos Drandakis in collaboration with associates Kostis Sakkas, Nikos Damilakis and Michael Sfictos.[8][9] The ride-hailing service was acquired by MyTaxi in February 2017, and renamed to Beat. MyTaxi is a subsidiary of the automotive manufacturer Daimler AG.[10]

Before the Greek firm was integrated into the Daimler cadre of corporations, Beat raised approximately $7 million in Series capital in its first two years of operations.[11]
