Barlaamism is a theological doctrine proposed by fourteenth-century Calabrian monk Barlaam of Seminara. Barlaam challenged the possibility of having experiential knowledge of God, instead asserting that knowledge of God can only be propositional, contrary to the beliefs of the Hesychasts.
