Bandung Independent School was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of the expatriate and local community in Bandung, Indonesia. The Pre-school to Grade 12 student population is approximately 240 and represents 24 nationalities. The language of instruction is English.

BIS is an IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, offering the IB Diploma Programme in High School and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) from age 3 –11 years. BIS was authorized by the IBO to run the PYP in 2004.

BIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) based in UK; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC based in United States) and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in the Elementary School from Early Childhood to Grade 5 and the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12.

Infrastructure

The school opened its current campus in 1993, located on Jalan Surya Sumantri, about 2 kilometers (or a 10-minute drive) from the city centre. The campus has 48 classrooms with semi-private teacher's offices and storage facilities. There are two computer labs, two science labs, demonstration rooms, a media centre, two covered courts, soccer field, and a swimming pool.

The present campus occupies a site of 50,000 sq. meters. Facilities include two playgrounds, and a multi-purpose hall that includes a stage, climbing wall, and aerobics room.

Sports

The school has teams in soccer, basketball, and swimming. The school belongs to one sports league: IISSAC or Indonesian International Small School Activity Conference. The school also has a wide range of Extra Curricular Activities including several forms of dance, martial arts, and sports.
