Final
The Olympic Men's 400m Final was held at the Lenin Stadium, Moscow on 30 July 1980. Following the American-led boycott, the favourite was reigning Olympic champion Cuba's Alberto Juantorena. Alberto, though, suffered an Achilles tendon injury in 1979; consequently his performances suffered. As a result, general unknown Viktor Markin, won gold for the Soviet hosts.
