Aron Michael Ekberg (born 30 March 1991), better known by his stage name AronChupa, is a Swedish rapper, singer, songwriter, DJ, record producer and footballer. Aron attended Academy of Art University from 2011 to 2013 and was a standout footballer for the Urban Knights before starting his music career.[2] He gained prominence with his 2014 song "I'm an Albatraoz", which reached number one on the Swedish Singles Chart and in Denmark, and reached the top ten in many charts across Europe. It also reached number 25 in the UK and number 10 in the US dance charts.

Career

Aron started his career as a footballer in the Swedish fourth division football club Byttorps IF. At the club he met Måns Harvidsson, Nicklas "Savo" Savolainen, Andreas "AndyBarMaskinen" Reinholdsson and Rasmus "Salle" Sahlberg and became friends. In 2012 they founded the electro-hip hop band Albatraoz and shortly after signed with Sony Music.[3] On 2 August 2013, was released their debut single, the self-titled "Albatraoz".[4] The song reached thirty-six on the Swedish Singles Chart and remained on the chart for nineteen weeks.[5] "Albatraoz" was certified gold in Sweden.[6] In January 2014 the song reached 8.5 million plays on Spotify and the group toured to promote the song.[7] On 18 April 2014 the group released their second single, "Arriba", but the song did not chart.[8]

On April 15, Ekberg released his first solo project, the extended play Russ, including some sets produced in 2013.[9] He also released two promotional singles, "Copacabana" and "Heaven On Earth", to Spotify.[10][11] On 8 August 2014 he released his debut solo single, "I'm an Albatraoz",[12] featuring the vocals of his sister Nora Ekberg.[13] The song was originally in a hip hop style, but a second version with electronic beats was chosen.[14] The song reached number one in Sweden and Denmark and the top 10 in Germany, Austria, Norway, Finland, Australia and the Netherlands. It was certified double platinum in Sweden and Australia and platinum in New Zealand, Italy and Denmark.[15][16] His second single dropped on 20 November 2015, titled "Fired Cuz I Was Late", and peaked at number 100 in Sweden.[17]

On 20 December, Ekberg and the members of Albatraoz released their third single, "Wunderbar".[18] On 26 February 2016 Ekberg released his third solo single, "Little Swing", which features his sister Nora again. The song gained slight recognition in the UK when Vodafone UK started using it in their roaming advert campaign.
