Biography

Born in O Porriño, Galicia. A prolific architect, he is known for his design of the Palacio de Comunicaciones (Cybele Palace) and Hotel Florida in Madrid, the Garcia Barbon Theatre in Vigo and many other works in those cities and places like Mondariz, Baiona or his home town O Porriño. He modernized the image of Madrid with some of the most emblematic buildings of the city: Circle of Fine Arts, Río de La Plata Bank, Banco Mercantil e Industrial, Maudes Hospital (a joint work with Joaquín Otamendi Machimbarrena), and constructed the first lines of the Metro de Madrid subway, whose designs for the entrances still can be seen in the city center.
