Andrew James Russell (Chinese: 羅素; born 21 November 1987), is a Hong Kong football player who is currently plays for China League One club Liaoning Whowin.

Club career

In 2008, he signed his first contract as a professional footballer for Happy Valley, which played in Hong Kong First Division League. After returning to the UK, Russell joined Mossley in the NPL First Division North and found employment with sportswear giants Adidas. He joined Chorley in 2010 when manager Garry Flitcroft took over. For the 2013-14 season, Russell chose Fylde after being convinced by manager Dave Challinor.[1] He helped the club retain the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy by beating Chorley 4-1 with one goal and one assist.[2]

In July 2014, Andy announced on his Twitter account that he had signed for South China for the 2014-15 Hong Kong Premier League season.[3]

On 7 January 2017, Andy Russell left South China for Penang FA after signing a one-year contract with the Malaysian club.[4] In May 2017, Andy Russell's contract with Penang FA is terminated due to his poor performances.[5]

On 27 February 2018, Russell left Tai Po, for whom he had been with for the past half-year, for China League One club Liaoning Whowin, where he can play as a native player.[6]

International career

On 14 March 2016, Russell received his first call-up for Hong Kong in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification against on 24 March 2016. He made his debut in a 2-0 loss to Qatar.[7]

Personal life

Andy Russell was born on the South Coast of England (Southampton), and moved to Hong Kong with his parents when he was only 18 months old. He lived in Hong Kong until he went to university in Manchester, England.[1]
