Alexandru "Alec" Secăreanu (born 4 December 1984 in Bucharest[1]) is a Romanian actor.
Early life
Alec Secăreanu was born in Bucharest, Romania. He completed drama study at the Caragiale Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography (Universitatea Națională de Artă Teatrală ṣi Cinematografică "I.L.Caragiale", UNATC), which he completed in 2007.
Career
After appearing in a number of Romanian films, 2017 brought Secăreanu his first English-language role in director Francis Lee's God's Own Country. In the award-winning drama, he was seen as a Romanian migrant farm worker Gheorghe, who begins a relationship with a sheep farmer (played by Josh O'Connor) on a farm in Yorkshire. Director Lee had insisted on the cast of a Romanian actor in the role of Gheorghe. After winning the role, he worked on a farm for two weeks before filming. His performance in God's Own Country earned him a London agent, membership in the British Actor's Union,[2] and a nomination for British Independent Film Awards.[3]
Personal life
Alec Secăreanu lives in Bucharest.[4] In addition to his work as an actor, he sporadically worked as a casting assistant and was involved in the production of Romanian short films.
