The NAB AFL Women's Rising Star award is given annually to a standout young player in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The first award was made in 2017. The National Australia Bank (NAB) has been the major sponsor since 2017.
Eligibility and voting procedure
Every round, two nominations are given to standout young players who performed well during that particular round. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be younger than 21 years of age on 1 January of that year and not be suspended during the season.[1]
At the end of the season, a selection panel, which also votes for the AFL Women's All-Australian team, votes for five of the nominees, with their top selections earning five votes, their second selections earning four votes, etc. The player who receives the most votes is the winner. The selection panel in 2017 was Simon Lethlean, Mark Evans, Josh Vanderloo, Jennie Loughnan, Kevin Sheehan, Peta Searle, Darren Flanigan, Kelli Underwood, Ros Lanigan and Shelley Ware.
