Production and reception

Deathwave is directed, produced and written by Toranong Srichua a film director famous in the 1980s and 1990s, especially with erotic films. This is the first film of his five years after the Unhuman in 2004. He said that he made this film to warn the Thai people about the disaster that might happen in the near future. Most of the filming takes place at a studio in Amphoe Kaeng Krachan, Phetchaburi province, which he hoped for when it was released, will be popular and he will update the studio as a tourist attraction[4]. But the film will not be released yet, the studio was on fire.[5]

And it will not released. It was promoted by making a large billboard stick next to a shophouse near the way to the Hua Lamphong Expressway. A photo of the real killed of the tsunami in 2004, which has been criticized as inappropriate for doing so. Because it does not honor the deceased.[6]

This film even looks like a blockbuster disaster film such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 or Korean film Haeundae, but when the released has been criticized, poor output quality is like the direct-to-video film or B movie and the income is very low.[7] But it was named as the first Thai film with Prime Minister is a main character.[8]

When the response is not good. Toranong thought to organize activities for people to fast on the roof of the building. Simulation of the event that if the tsunami really come to life? to promote. But he was not organized, lest they be criticized again.[2]

This cause led the Toranong Srichua was stressed and tried to commit suicide including a lot of debts to this day.[2][3]
