The 1986 Mercantile Credit Classic was the seventh edition of the professional snooker tournament which took place from 3–12 January 1986. The tournament was played at the Spectrum Arena, Warrington, Cheshire.
The competition has now been extended and Willie Thorne the defending champion lost in the third round of 64 players to Tony Jones 3-5. Jimmy White meanwhile won his first ranking event beating Cliff Thorburn 13-12. Again, the final was played in three sessions with the last one on Sunday afternoon and will remain until 1989.
