1983 KB Cup

In 1983 KB Cup was the name of the annual mid-week knockout rugby league competition. The naming rights sponsor was Tooth and Co.'s product KB Lager. The tournament was played from April to August 1983, culminating in the final between Sydney clubs Manly-Warringah and Cronulla-Sutherland.


Format

The tenth midweek cup competition operated on a straight knock-out format consisting of 18 teams. Central Districts (NZ) won the inter-district championship in 1982 and therefore replaced South Island (NZ) in the competition.

The competing teams were the 14 Sydney premiership teams (Balmain, Canberra, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cronulla-Sutherland, Eastern Suburbs, Illawarra, Manly-Warringah, Newtown, North Sydney, Parramatta, Penrith, St George, South Sydney and Western Suburbs), Combined Brisbane, Central Districts (NZ), NSW Country and QLD Country.

4 teams played in a Preliminary (or qualifying) round. They were Balmain, Canberra, Manly-Warringah and Parramatta.
