The 1981 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup was played from November 19 to 28 in Japan.

It was the 4th edition of the competition. Once again, hosts Japan narrowly missed out on the victory, finishing in second. As in 1981, it was the Soviet Union defended the third title.[1]
