1980 Tooth Cup

In 1980 Tooth Cup was the name of the annual mid-week knockout rugby league competition. The naming rights sponsor was Tooth and Co., who took over from the original sponsor Amco Jeans Australia. The tournament was played from April to August 1980, culminating in the final between Sydney clubs Parramatta and Balmain.

Format

The seventh midweek cup competition format was changed once again. This time teams each played 2 games with the top 8 teams advancing to the quarter finals.

The 16 teams that contested the 1979 AMCO Cup remained. They were the 12 Sydney premiership teams (Balmain, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cronulla-Sutherland, Eastern Suburbs, Manly-Warringah, Newtown, North Sydney, Parramatta, Penrith, St George, South Sydney and Western Suburbs), Auckland, Combined Brisbane, NSW Country and QLD Country.
