1974 Amco Cup

The 1974 Amco Cup was won by New South Wales Country Rugby League's Western Division team. They were coached by Johnny King and included players such as Geoff Lousick, Nelson Smith, "TV" Ted Ellery, Barry Harden-Upman and Terry Fahey. The competition initially intended on including the 12 Sydney premiership teams, 4 from the Brisbane premiership and the 4 Country Divisional finalists. The original sponsor was the AMCO Jeans Company of Australia.

The Queensland Rugby League along with Newcastle rejected the idea, so all the Country Division teams were invited along with New Zealand team, Auckland.

The final make-up of the competition was the 12 Sydney premiership teams (Balmain, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cronulla-Sutherland, Eastern Suburbs, Manly-Warringah, Newtown, North Sydney, Parramatta, Penrith, St George, South Sydney and Western Suburbs), Ryde-Eastwood (Second Division premiers) and 7 New South Wales divisional teams – Illawarra, Monaro, North Coast, Northern Division, Riverina, Southern Division and Western Division and Auckland.
