The Žitava River (Hungarian: Zsitva) is a 99.3 km long river in southern Slovakia. It is the left tributary of the Nitra river.

Etymology

The name comes from Slavic žito: grain, corn. Žitava: probably "the river flowing through the grain fields".[1]
