As Rutgers is a state university, the main priority is research. This is good in that professors are experts in their fields. For example, the philosophy department consistently ranks in the top 3 in the United States. The negative is that teaching is not valued as much. Expect introductory classes to contain 200 or more students, with the professor using a microphone and homework graded by a TA.
