Chile

Postage meters first appeared in 1930. All stamps have “CHILE” in the frank.

The stamps are grouped according to design and function:

A - Frank with complete outer border
B - Frank with partial or no outer border
PO - Special stamps generated only by machines in Post Offices




GROUP A: Frank with complete outer border


A1. Universal "Midget" (FV-5), 1930. [$20]

Small frank with “CHILE CORREOS” in arched panel above large value figure in center.
“PORTE PAGADO” at bottom with M# above. M#s M1 thru M10.

A2. Universal "Midget" (FV-5). [$15]

Frank with extended corners each containing a star.
“CHILE CORREOS” in negative letters in arc across top,
and “CENTAVOS” in negative letters centered at bottom.

The date is approximately 13 mm wide with stops after D and before Y.

A9. Francotyp “A9000” (MV).

Very similar to Type A8 but the date is much wider at 14-15 mm
with wide spacing between M and Y. Stops after D and M.

M# with “PBE” prefix breaks bottom frame line.

PO3. NCR.

Frameless frank printed on self-adhesive labels.
From the top, the elements in the frank are:
weight , postage
date , time
post office identification
The labels have an underprint consisting of multiple small flying bird logos usually in pink but also found in beige.
“PORTE/PAGADO” in red at upper right, and the postal service logo is at upper left.
Three types of postal service logos exist:
A. Flying bird in blue above “CORREOS” in red/ “de Chile” negative in a red band
B. As A, but with small “EMPRESA” between the bird and “CORREOS”
C. As B, but the bird has speed lines added, and “DE CHILE” is positive in capital letters
D. Logo as with A but the label is wider and with small vertical "NCR" logo at lower right

a. With a small oval printer’s mark in red at bottom right
b. Without weight
c. Impression inverted on label

NOTE: Misprints occur due to label misalignment while passing through the printer. The illustration for variety D shows the town name at top.

C. As B but "PORTE/PAGADO" is red instead of blue.
