A flame weeder is a propane torch used for weed control, primarily in organic gardens and farms. They come in various sizes for different sorts of applications, from hand-held models to backpack versions to tractor-towed agricultural types.

Flame weeding has both advantages and disadvantages over other methods.

  • Pops seeds
  • Safe in lawns: lawn grasses are adapted to fire
  • Collateral damage
  • Expense: Propane costs can be prohibitive
