THE SONSHIP OF MESSIAH

“For unto which of the angels said he at any time, You are my Son, this day have I begotten You? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? But unto the Son he says, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever.” “Your throne" - the Son is exalted to the Father’s right-hand after His resurrection. (Hebrews 1:5, 8)

The typology in Abraham offering up his only son would have no purpose and relevance if the Father and the Son were one and the same. He is stated to be the Only Begotten Son. whom the Father offered for the world.

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

“the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.” (John 1:18) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, ...” (John 3:16, 18) “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” (1 John 4:9)

God passed unto His only begotten Son, unconditional ‘life in Himself’. As a child becomes independent of the mother once it is born, so God’s Son (in whose image we are made) became self-existent once He was begotten of the Father. Self-existence was inherent in His “birthing” (bringing forth). In addition to self-existence, the Son received from His Father His very character and nature and therefore He reveals His exact image. “For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself.” (John 5:26) “It pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell.” (Colossians 1:19)

“He is the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person.” (Hebrews 1:3; See Exodus 33:18, 19.) “He is the image of the invisible God.” (Colossians 1:15)

Are the Father & the Son equal and one?

“The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things soever he does, these also does the Son likewise.” (John 5:19)

“you (believers) are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.” (1 Corinthians 3:23)

“the head of Christ is God.” (1 Corinthians 11:3)

“I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17)

“for my Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28)

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.” (Ephesians 1:17)

“But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.” (1 Corinthians 8:6)

“And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.” (1 Corinthians 15:28)

“That they all may be one; as You, Father, are in me, and I in You, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that You have sent me. And the glory which You gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one. I in them, and You in me, that they may be made perfect in one.” (John 17:21-23)

God is the Father, Christ/Messiah is the Son. But in the same way it says that believers should be one, not meaning that they actually become one person, neither are the Father and His Son one God. It means that they are one in mind and in purpose - in unity as we are to be in unity with one another.

THE SON'S SUBMISSION TO THE FATHER

God, the Father, has made His son His equal in nature, character, and purpose; His full and only co-partner. But this does not negate His submission to the Father, who is the one God, who rules over all, including the Son.

“I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28)

“The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do.” (John 5:19)

“I can of myself do nothing… I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me.” (John 5:30)

“For He has put all things under his feet. But when he says all things are put under [him, it is] manifest that He (God) is excepted, which did put all things under him. “ (1 Corinthians 15:27)

“As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father (by the Spirit within) (John 6:57)

However, the honour we attribute to the Son is not affected by His submission to His Father,.for in Him dwells the divinity of His Father, the one God. We also honour the Son for He is our Saviour, Redeemer, and Advocate before His and our Father. We also honour Him because He is the only begotten Son of the one God.

“That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honour not the Son honour not the Father which has sent him.” (John 5:23)

“For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does;” (John 5:20) “for the works which the Father has given Me to finish--the very works that I do--bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. (John 5:36) “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me? (John 10:32) “If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; (John 10:37) "The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. (John 10:25) “I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.” (John 8:28) "I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.” (John 8:38) "For I have not spoken on My own [authority]; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. (John 12:49) “Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.” (John 12:50) “My doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me.” (John 7:16) “ for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. (John 15:15) “I do not speak on My own [authority]; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. (John 14:10)

THE DIVINITY OF THE SON

Because He has the same nature as God. He was born from God so He is God by nature, that is, he is divine; but He is not the One who is the Supreme Being in the universe. There is One who is greater than He. This is the One the Bible is talking about when it says that there is only one God but there are two Beings who have the divine nature (John 1:1)

“And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaks the YHWH of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name [is] The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of YHWH: Even he shall build the temple of YHWH; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” (Zechariah 6:12, 13)

THE DEATH OF THE SON

(God) ”Who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:16) “Do not I fill heaven and earth? says YHWH.” (Jeremiah 23:24)

God cannot die as He is immortal, but the Son of God could be made mortal so that He could die. He became a man and did truly die to save us from our sins. If Yeshua was God, Himself, then it would not be true that He could really die. YHWH‘s spirit fills all things and therefore all creation would have been affected if He “died”. “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” (Hebrews 2:9)

THE AUTHORITY OF THE SON

“God has spoken to us in these last days by [his] Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews 1:2)

“All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” (Matthew 11:25-27) “For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” - through the holy Spirit (Colossians 3:8,9). In the name of Yeshua every knee shall bow and confess that He is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Note that it is in the invested authority of the Name (Phil.2:10). See John 16:23-24.

”For us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, ... and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things ... ” (1 Corinthians 8:6) “God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 3:9) “All things were made through him" (John 1:3) “For by him were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through him and for Him." (Col.1:16)

When the Son’s work is complete, then the Father will have the pre-eminence
