< Hebrew Roots < Holy Days < Day of Atonement < Atonement

Yom Kippur is the most awesome day in the sacred calendar when each individual seeks to come into the throne room of Almighty God and appropriate the work of Messiah's atonement by confession, repentance and restitution before a holy God. It is the only commanded fast in scripture and starts before the day of Yom Kippur officially begins, traditionally commencing one hour before nightfall on the 9th Tishri, making it a 25 hour fast by the end of the day at nightfall on the 10th Tishri.

It has become a custom to spiritually prepare for this intense period of seeking the face of Yahweh God by having a festive meal in the afternoon of the 9th Tishri in anticipation of the blessing of sins forgiven which will be extended to those who sincerely repent of all sin and also to fortify oneself physically for the day ahead. This is done as an act of faith in Yahweh's mercy.

As part of the consecration, the emblems of the bread and wine may be taken in remembrance of Y'shua's atonement for us in which we place our faith.

A Mikveh (ritual immersion in water - i.e. baptism) is also usually taken and white garments are worn symbolically as part of the ceremonial ritual of purification of one's life.

In lieu of the temple services, the Jews now have five services on Yom Kippur in the synagogue. The first at night at the commencement of Yom Kippur. The second is the morning service and an additional service is added in the morning called the Musaf, then the afternoon service is followed by the final service of the day, the Ne'ilah She'arim (the closing of the gates).

YOM KIPPUR EVE SERVICE For the afternoon of the eve of Yom Kippur following the festive meal, normally eaten approx. 3pm. Wife/Female Leader lights Festival Candles.

1. BLESSING OF THE FESTIVAL LIGHTS Blessed are You, Yahweh our God, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with Your commandments and in the blood of Y'shua the Messiah, and commanded us to kindle the lights of Yom Kippur.

Blessed are You, Yahweh our God, King of the universe, Who has kept us in life, and preserved us, and enabled us to reach this time.

May we follow the instruction of Y'shua haMashiach, Who said, Again you have heard that it has been said to those of old, You shall not swear falsely, but shall fulfill your vows to Yahweh . But I say to you, do not swear at all; neither by heaven, for it is God s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your Yes be Yes and your No No , For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. (Matthew 5:33-37)

2. CONGREGATIONAL PRAYERS Leader: Barchu et Yahweh hahm vorach. Bless Yahweh Who is blessed. Congregation: Barchu et Yahweh hahm vorach l olam va ed. Bless Yahweh Who is blessed forever.

3. READINGS. Leviticus 23:26-32 Hebrews 9:22-28; 10: 6 -14

4. PRAYERS O Yahweh our God and God of our fathers, we acknowledge to You that we are sinners. We have acted unfaithfully, aggressively and slanderously; We have acted brazenly, viciously and fraudulently; We have acted willfully, scornfully and obstinately; We have acted perniciously, disdainfully and erratically. Turning away from Your good precepts and laws has not profited us. You are just in all that has come upon us; You have dealt truthfully, but we have acted wickedly.

O, You Who dwells on high, what can we say to You? You are in heaven, what can we declare in Your presence? You know what is open and what is hidden. You know the mysteries of the universe and the dark secrets of every living soul. You search all the inmost chambers of man's conscience; nothing escapes You, nothing is hidden from Your sight.

We thank You Lord that You hast provided atonement for all our transgressions through the sacrifice of Y'shua haMashiach, our Salvation. {Specific listing of sins and/or private confession)

We thank You for Your atonement, O God of forgiveness. Forgive us for the mortal sins for which the early courts would inflict the death penalty. (1 John 5:14-17) Forgive us the breach of positive commands and the breach of negative commands, whether or not they involve an act, whether or not they are known to us. The sins known to us we have already acknowledged to You; and those that are not known to us are indeed well-known to You, as it is said: What is hidden belongs to the Lord God, but what is known concerns us and our children forever, that we may observe all the commands of this Torah.

You are the Forgiver of Israel, our Pardoner in every generation, and besides You we have no King to pardon and forgive our sins. O Yahweh, open my lips that my mouth might declare Your praise.Blessed are You, O Yahweh our God, God of our fathers; God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; Great, Mighty and Revered God, Who bestows loving kindness, and are Master of all things, Who hast graciously brought the Redeemer, Y'shua haMashiach, to provide our atonement; and will graciously save Israel for Your Holy Names sake.

We thank You for life, O King Who delights in life; we thank You for inscribing us in the Lamb s Book of Life, for the sake of Y'shua the Lamb of God, Who takes away our sins. Our God and God of our fathers, may the remembrance of Messiah the Son of David Your servant ascend and come and be accepted before You for deliverance and happiness, for grace, kindness and mercy, for life and peace on this Day of Atonement. Remember us this day, O Yahweh our God, and be mindful of us for blessing.

SCRIPTURE READING Numbers 29: 7-11; Hebrews 9:23; 10: 6-10

CONFESSION AND RECONCILIATION Consider the magnitude of God's forgiveness of our sins which are worthy of death by the provision of His own Son to die in our place. If God forgave us then we ought to forgive one another.

Y'shua taught - "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matthew 6:14-15

"Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another, even as Messiah forgave you, so you must do." Colossians 3:13-14

Y'shua said in Matthew 18:15, "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother." (And continuing on in verses 16-20 the procedure to follow and the principles involved in loosing others sins and effecting reconciliation). Reconciliation of any offences or differences within the family unit should be given priority and ideally be settled before issues within the extended family of God. Children are blessed. Parents place their hands on their child's head and say: To sons: Y sim kha elohim k ephra yim v khim nashe. May God make you as Ephraim and Menashe. To daughters: Ysim meikh elohim k sara, rivka, raheIl v leah. May God make you as Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, & Leah.

PRAYER Our Father, our King, be gracious to us and answer us though we have no merits; deal graciously with us and deliver us

PRIESTLY BLESSING Yahweh bless you and keep you. Yahweh make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. Yahweh lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. In the name of the Prince of Peace, Yeshua the Messiah. Amen.

KOL NIDREI (Aram. “All vows”) A declaration of annulment of vows with which the evening service of the Day of Atonement in the synagogue commences. The worshipers proclaim that all personal vows, oaths, etc., that they made unwittingly, rashly, or unknowingly (and that, consequently, cannot be fulfilled) during the year should be considered null and void.

Reader: "When you make a vow to Yahweh your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for Yahweh your God shall surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you. That which has gone out of your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to Yahweh your God what you have promised with your mouth." Deuteronomy 23:21, 23

"All vows, oaths, promises, obligations, which I (we) have purposed, vowed, promised, sworn, or bound myself (ourselves) to fulfill in the past year, we repent of. We ask You to forgive us of our negligence, forgetfulness and inability to keep that which proceeded from our mouths. Release us from that which we vowed and let the bonds be broken and our words made null and void, annihilated and abolished. Teach us to weigh our words and put a guard on our mouths before we utter foolishly that which we are unable to perform and fulfill. You are gracious and compassionate, full of mercy and forgiveness and we thank You for your atonement in Y'shua our Messiah"

SONG  Psalm 145

MESSAGE Atonement has two basic components: forgiveness, which is preceded by repentance, and purification, which is symbolized by baptism. The first goat, on which the lot for Azazel fell (the scapegoat), representatively carried the people s sins far away into the wilderness, too far for them to return. It typifies forgiveness in Y'shua... Acts 5:30-31

The God of our fathers raised up Y'shua,... to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.  Psalm 103:9

The second goat, on which the lot for Yahweh fell, became an elevation offering through burning, going up as a sweet savour to God. It represents purification through Y'shua - being born anew and clothed with light,... For as many of you as have been baptized into Messiah have put on Messiah.  Galatians 3:27

Another perspective of atonement, is that God covers our sins, and then covers us with a robe of righteousness. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.   Romans 4:7

Lo, a great multitude... clothed with robes of light. Revelation 7:9

We are commanded to repent and then to learn to walk in righteousness. It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance, and only through His Spirit that we can walk before Him in righteousness; there is no merit to be naturally found in us.

By definition, sin is that which is contrary to God's instruction and opposite to actions showing faith in God. Repentance means returning - to God. It is shown when one who has transgressed is faced with the opportunity to repeat the sin and he has the power to do so, yet he refrains - neither because of fear nor because of weakness - but because he wishes to turn to God.

A sinner should abandon his sinfulness, drive it from his thoughts and conclude in his heart that he will never do it again. Additionally, he should regret the past and he must confess with his lips and declare those things that he has concluded in his heart. For sins committed against a fellow man, restitution must (as far as possible) first be made. The Yom Kippur atonement is an annual rehearsal to remind us to turn and serve our Saviour with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our might!

CONFESSION  Viduy (sins are addressed corporately as being responsible for each other's sins)

Leader: Our God and the God of our forefathers, may our prayer come before You. Do not ignore our supplication, for we are not so brazen and obstinate as to say before You, Yahweh our God and the God of our forefathers, that we are righteous and have not sinned - rather, we and our forefathers have sinned. We have become guilty, we have betrayed, we have robbed, we have spoken slander. We have caused perversion, we have caused wickedness, we have sinned willfully, we have extorted, we have accused falsely. We have counseled evil, we have been deceitful, we have scorned, we have rebelled, we have provoked, we have turned away, we have been perverse, we have acted wantonly, we have persecuted, we have been obstinate.

We have been wicked, we have corrupted, we have been abominable, we have strayed and You allowed us to go our own way. We have turned away from Your commandments and from Your good laws but to no avail. But You are righteous in all that has come upon us, for You have acted truthfully while we have caused wickedness.

What can we say before You, Who dwells on high, and what can we relate to You, Who abides in the highest heavens for indeed, everything that is hidden and revealed You know. You know the secrets of the universe, and the hidden-most mysteries of all the living. You probe all innermost chambers and test thoughts and emotions. Nothing is hidden from You and nothing is concealed from Your eyes. And so may it be Your will, Yahweh our God and the God of our forefathers, that You atone for us for all our errors, and You forgive us for all our iniquities, and You pardon us for all our willful sins.

Congregation: For the sin that we have sinned before You under duress and willingly; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through hardness of the heart. For the sin that we have sinned before You without knowledge and in ignorance and for the sin that we have sinned before You willfully and carelessly. For the sin that we have sinned before You with knowledge and with deceit; and for the sin that we have sinned before You against those who know and against those who do not know.

For all these, O God of forgiveness, forgive us and pardon us through Y'shua's atonement for us.

For the sin that we have sinned before You through immorality; and for the sin that we have sinned before You in public or in private. For the sin that we have sinned before You through wronging a neighbor; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through inner thoughts. For the sin that we have sinned before You in a session of vice; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through insincere confession and for the sin that we have sinned before You with the utterance of the lips and for the sin that we have sinned before You through harsh speech.

For the sin that we have sinned before You through impure lips; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through foolish speech. For the sin that we have sinned before You through scorning; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through evil talk. For the sin that we have sinned before You with the idle chatter of our lips; and for the sin that we have sinned before You by gossip-mongering.

For all these, O God of forgiveness, forgive us and pardon us through Y'shua s atonement for us.

For the sin that we have sinned before You by showing contempt for parents and teachers; For the sin that we have sinned before You in throwing off Your yoke; and for the sin that we have sinned before You in judgment. For the sin that we have sinned before You by exercising controlling powers; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through desecration of the Name. For the sin that we have sinned before You with the Evil Inclination; For the sin that we have sinned before You through denial and false promises; and for the sin that we have sinned before You by subservience through bribery. For the sin that we have sinned before You in commercial dealings; and for the sin that we have sinned before You with food and drink.

For the sin that we have sinned before You through interest and extortion; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through haughtiness. and for the sin that we have sinned before You with prying eyes. For the sin that we have sinned before You with haughty eyes; and for the sin that we have sinned before You with brazenness.

For the sin that we have sinned before You through a begrudging eye, and for the sin that we have sinned before You with obstinacy. For the sin that we have sinned before You with legs that run to do evil; For the sin that we have sinned before You through vain oath-taking; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through baseless hatred. For the sin that we have sinned before You in the matter of extending a hand; and for the sin that we have sinned before You through confusion of the heart.

For all these, O God of forgiveness, forgive us and pardon us through Y'shua's atonement for us.

Those that are revealed to us we have declared before You and confessed them to You; and those that are not revealed to us are revealed and known to You. You are the Forgiver and the Pardoner in every generation, and beside You there is none to forgive. Behold, before You I am like a vessel filled with shame and humiliation. May it be Your will, Yahweh my God and the God of my forefathers, that I not sin again. And what I have sinned before You, may You wipe away with Your abundant mercy that I not be judged through suffering or serious illness. My God, guard my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceitfully. To those who curse me, let my soul be silent; and let my soul be like dust to everyone. Open my heart to Your Torah, then my soul will pursue Your commandments. As for all those who oppose me and design evil against me, speedily nullify their counsel and disrupt their design.

May it be Your will, Yahweh my God and the God of my forefathers, that human jealousy may not rise up against me, nor my jealousy upon others; may I not become angry today, and may I not anger You. Rescue me from the Evil Inclination, and place in my heart submissiveness and humility.

Leader: May the expressions of our mouths and the thoughts of our hearts be acceptable before You, Yahweh our Rock and our Redeemer. May the peace of God be ours and for all Israel. Amen.

BAPTISM Mikvah Baptism is a rite representing a change of state from ritual uncleanness to spiritual purity as a result of repentance.  (1 Peter 3:21) Psalm 24:3-61 Who may ascend into the hill of Yahweh? And who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart. Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from Yahweh and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Thy face even Jacob. Selah.     Without holiness no man shall see the Lord.

ALEINU   (excerpts) Leader: It is Incumbent upon us us... ... Please stand All: It is incumbent upon us to praise the Master of all, to exalt the creator of the world. We bow in awe and thanksgiving before the One Who is sovereign over all, the Holy One, blessed be He. He stretched forth the heavens like a tent and established the earth as His footstool. Truly there is none like our Lord and King.

We anticipate, Yahweh our God, to soon behold Your majestic glory when all abominations shall be removed and all false gods shall be at an end. Then shall the world be perfected under Your authority and all mankind shall call upon Your name. For to You every knee must bow and every tongue declare that You are God. Reign over us soon and forever.

May the kingdom of David s greater son, Y'shua, be established forever. For then shall the words be fulfilled,   Yahweh shall be king forever, and, Yahweh shall be king over all the earth.   On that day, Yahweh shall be One, and His Name One. Amen

PRIESTLY BLESSING Birkhat Khohanim Leader: Yahweh bless you and keep you; Yahweh make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; Yahweh lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. Congregation: Amen.

FINAL GREETING   G' mar Hatimah Tovah   May you have a good & final sealing in the book of life If there are no facilities for an immersion in a Mikveh to be undertaken in the service, it can be done afterward.

MUSAF MORNING SERVICE This service was added to the Synagogues services to replace the Temple service after 70AD

Leader: Sh'ma Israel, Yahweh is our God, Yahweh is One. Blessed be the Name of the glory of His Sovereignty for evermore!

Congregation "And you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words which I command you this day, shall be engraved on your heart. And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you go out on the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up. And you shall bind them for a token upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them upon your door-posts of your house and upon your gates." Deuteronomy 6: 4-9

Leader: With great abounding love You have loved us, Yahweh our God! With great and exuberant mercy You have had compassion upon us, our Father, our King! All compassionate Father, have mercy upon us and implant in our hearts the faculty to understand and clearly conceive, to hear, to learn and to teach, to observe and to carry out all the teachings of Your law in love for You. Enlighten our eyes in Your Torah and cause our hearts to cleave unto Your commandments; unite our hearts to love and to reverence Your name so that we would not be put to shame. For in Your holy Name we confide, and rejoice in Your salvation to come.

"This is the message that we have from Him and declare unto you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Y'shua the Messiah His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1: 5-9

PRAYER - Messianic Ashamnu Leader: O Yahweh our God and God of our fathers, we acknowledge to You that we are sinners. We have acted unfaithfully, we have neglected our responsibilities and have been selfish. We have been lukewarm and not loved You with all our heart and mind and hungered and thirsted after Your righteousness and the things of Your kingdom.

We have elevated other people and other things above our commitment to obey You. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves, and have fallen short in not blessing our enemies and turning the other cheek.

We have not been merciful and have withheld what we could have given. We have not gone the second mile and have been impatient with the faults of others. We have judged, we have held resentments and have not been quick to forgive. We have not been our brothers keeper and done unto others as we would have had them do unto us.

We have been greedy and we have loved the world and the things in the world. We have been anxious and not trusted You to provide for all of our needs. We have set our minds on the things of earth and not on the things above. We have given our time and our energies to things that do not profit and practiced our righteousness before men.

We have not abstained from the lusts of our flesh and honoured our bodies as Your holy dwelling place. We have been negligent in prayer and have not been thankful and rejoiced in the situations of our lives.

We have spoken critically, we have slandered, we have gossipped and engaged in evil talk about our brother. We have not controlled our tongues and only spoken that which we know to be true and of good report. We have been proud and obstinate, unwilling to have a teachable spirit and be corrected.

We have had evil thoughts and evil desires to fulfill the lusts of our hearts. We have sinned wilfully against You; and we have sinned in negligence of Your holy precepts and Your statutes.

We have turned away from Your good precepts and laws and gone our own way to fulfill the desires of our own heart and mind. We have neglected to keep our lives filled with Your holy Spirit and walk as Y'shua walked.

Congregation: You know the secrets of every living soul. You search all the inmost chambers of man's conscience; nothing escapes You, and nothing is hidden from Your sight. Search my heart, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting, for Your Name's sake, Amen (Psalm 139:23-24)

We thank You our Father that You hast provided atonement for all our transgressions through the sacrifice of Y'shua haMashiach, our Redeemer.

Time for reflection and private meditation

THE AVODAH Leviticus 16: 3-9; 15-34 (traditionally divided between six readers) First Reader: Preparation by the High Priest: Yom Kippur was the only day the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies in the Temple, and the only time during the year he would recite the explicit name of God, Yahweh.

In order to perform these rites, he would begin his preparation seven days ahead of time, perfecting his performance of the rituals in accordance with the books of Leviticus and Numbers. At dawn he would begin the Avodah service.

Read Leviticus Chapter 16 - vs. 3-6

Second Reader: First confession, for the High Priest and his household: The High Priest would begin Yom Kippur with ritual immersion, change his clothes, and then make a sacrifice for the regular daily offering. He would then immerse himself again and don white linen clothing that was used only while making the Yom Kippur sacrifices. He then would approach the bull he was to use for his personal sacrifice (for himself and his family) and make the confession -- “I beseech You, O God, to forgive the iniquities and the transgressions and the sins which I have committed against You, I and my household.... ”, ending by pronouncing the explicit name of God, "Yahweh".

The High Priest would prolong his pronunciation of the name until the people finished saying, ... ...

Congregation: (kneeling and prostrating themselves before the Divine Presence) "We bend the knee and prostrate ourselves and offer thanks to the supreme King of Kings, the Holy One, blessed be he, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, whose glorious throne is in the heavens and the home of whose majesty is in the loftiest heights." “Blessed be Yahweh’s glorious sovereignty forever.”

Leader: The High Priest would then say: “You are purified.” "So shall they put My Name upon the children of Israel and I will bless them" Numbers 6:27

Reader - Lev.16:9, 11

Third Reader: Second confession, for all priests: Next the High Priest would approach the two goats that had been prepared for sacrifice for the people. He would pull from an urn the two lots, one marked “Yahweh” and one marked “Le Azazel” (for the wilderness). He would tie a strip of red cloth on the horns of the goat for the wilderness, and a strip of red cloth on the neck of the goat to be sacrificed.

The High Priest then made confession for all the priests (“I beseech You, O God, to forgive the iniquities and the transgressions and the sins which I have committed against You, I and my household and the children of Aaron, Your holy people....”).

He ended, again, by pronouncing the name of Yahweh, the people would again prostrate themselves on the ground, calling: Congregation: (prostrated) "We bend the knee and prostrate ourselves and offer thanks to the supreme king of kings, the holy one, blessed be he, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, whose glorious throne is in the heavens and the home of whose majesty is in the loftiest heights."

Blessed be Yahweh's glorious sovereignty forever

Leader: and the High Priest absolved them by saying, “You are purified.”

Reader: Lev.16:12-14

Fourth Reader: Entering the Holy of Holies: After the second confession over the bull, the High Priest slaughtered it and gathered its blood into a bowl. He then took a fire pan and ladle and carried these into the Holy of Holies.

Reaching the ark he threw two handfuls of incense into the fire pan, filling the entire chamber with smoke. He then went back outside and took the bowl of the bull’s blood. Returning inside he sprinkled it eight times, one time upward and seven times downward. He went back out into the Temple Court and slaughtered the goat marked “Yahweh.” Returning to the Holy of Holies, he sprinkled its blood eight times, precisely as he had done that of the bull: one time upward and seven times downward. Read Lev.16:15-17

Fifth Reader: Third confession, for the House of Israel: The High Priest then returned to the Temple Court, approaching the goat marked “Le Azazel.” He laid his hands upon it and confessed for the entire people of Israel (“I beseech You, O God, to forgive the iniquities and the transgressions and the sins which Your people the House of Israel have committed against You..”). Leader: I invoke the name of Y-a-h-w-e-h upon you

Congregation: "We bend the knee and prostrate ourselves and offer thanks to the supreme king of kings, the holy one, blessed be he who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, whose glorious throne is in the heavens and the home of whose majesty is in the loftiest heights."

Blessed be Yahweh's glorious Sovereignty forever

Leader: and the High Priest absolved them by saying, “You are purified.”

Reader: Lev.16:18-19

Sixth Reader: The goat for the wilderness: After this third confession, the goat Le Azazel was taken by a priest to a designated ravine in the wilderness. The priest took off the crimson thread, tying one half to a rock and the other half back on to the goat’s horns. Then he pushed the goat into the ravine.

Sentinels posted along the route from the ravine signaled back to the waiting people that the goat had reached the wilderness, at which time the High Priest read from Leviticus and Numbers and recited concluding benedictions. If the atonement was accepted, the scarlet thread which was tied to the goat turned white and the High Priest was accompanied by the people back to his house with great joy and song, for he had emerged safely from the Holy of Holies and the people were cleansed of their sin.

"If your sins should be like the scarlet thread, they will turn like snow. Isaiah 1:18

Read: Lev.16:20-22; and, "This shall be a statute for you forever: In the seventh month on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you. For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you that you may be clean from all your sins before Yahweh. It is a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever." Leviticus 16:29-31

"But now Messiah has come, as the High Priest of all the blessings which were to come. He has passed through the greater the more perfect tent, not made by human hands, that is, not of this created order; and he has entered the sanctuary once for all, taking with him not the blood of goats and bull calves, but his own blood, having won an eternal redemption."

"He entered into heaven itself, so that he now appears in the presence of God on our behalf. " Hebrews 9:11-12, 24

AVODAH LITURGICAL POEM How majestic was the High Priest as he left the Holy of Holies; In peace and without injury. Like the heavenly canopy stretched over those who dwell above; Like lightning bolts Emanating from the radiance of the heavenly beings...; Like the sight of sunlight upon the earth; Like the garden's rose among the thorns; Like the appearance of constellations from the south. [Such] was the appearance of the [High] Priest.

"And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen." Revelation 1:17-18

"We have then, brothers, complete confidence through the blood of Y'shua in entering the sanctuary, by a new way which he has opened up for us, a living opening through the curtain, that is to say, his flesh. And we have the high priest over all the sanctuary of God. So as we go in. let us be sincere in heart and filled with faith, our hearts sprinkled and free from any trace of bad conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us keep firm in the hope we profess, because the one who made the promise is trustworthy." Hebrews 10:19-23 NJB

Leader: He is able to save to the uttermost all that come unto God through Him. (Hebrews 7:25)

“Beloved, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord, Yeshua the Messiah unto eternal life” (Jude 21)

PRIESTLY BLESSING “Yahweh bless you and keep you. Yahweh make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; Yahweh lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. “ Amen! (Numbers 6:25)

MINCHAH AND NEILAH SERVICES

Yom Kippur, is the appointed time that Yahweh our God has chosen to deal with issues of sin that have not been resolved in our lives in our preparation to stand before the presence of His glory in that Day with joy, and not with shame. This day is a revelation of His compassionate love and His great mercy toward us, His people, in His provision of atonement in Y'shua, our Messiah. It is a day to commemorate that sacrificial provision and to respond by changing, turning and making Teshuvah/repentance. He has done it all to set us free from the bondage of our sin. Yom Kippur can be the beginning of a renewed relationship with our God. It is a window of opportunity to grow closer to Y'shua through repentance and cleansing. When we respond appropriately, we receive the atonement He provided and ensure that our destiny is secured for another year and our names continue to be written in the Lamb's Book of Life. By so doing we are once again cleansed and sealed unto eternal life.

"Therefore brethren. be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour, Y'shua the Messiah." 2 Peter 1:10-11

The Minchah is the afternoon service and the Neilah is the closing service of the day in the Synagogue which have been combined here. Neilah, literally means "closing" or "shutting," because it originally coincided with the time of the shutting of the Temple’s gates. In time Neilah came to mean the closing of the gates of heaven which stood ajar during the day to receive the prayers and supplications of the contrite and repentant sinners. Ephesians 4:30
