Canal Companies, O.C.G.A. §§ 52-4-1 to 16

Summary of the Act

General Description
This Chapter governs canal companies and the construction and maintenance of canals. Many of the sections cover business aspects of canal companies, including business incorporation, registration, location, and issuance of capital stock.
Powers of Canal Companies
Canal companies are authorized to build canals and branch canals, which may include constructing dams or other means to divert water.
Environmental Protections
When building a canal or dam, a canal company cannot destroy or obstruct the navigation of a river or stream. The company must also place and maintain fishways in any dam.
