We don't know the future, but we can guess what it may be like. It may be our idea of paradise (like the Culture) or our idea of hell (like 1984). A conworld set in the future has much less to go on than one set in the past. That may be one of the main reasons that futuristic conworlds are rarely seen, though there are certainly other factors.
