Cranksets comprise the chainrings and cranks, and sometimes the bottom bracket; never the pedals.

There are three main categories of cranksets, depending on how the chainrings are connected to the cranks. Firstly, the cheapest cranksets are made in one piece, with the chainrings welded to the cranks. More expensive and higher-quality ones are bolted on with either four or five bolts.
